Hayley Williams Once Quit Paramore Due To Depression
The "Told You So" singer revealed that she quietly quit Paramore back in the summer of 2015 in order to deal with some personal issues.
In an interview with Fader, Hayley Williams opened up about her past depression and the toll it took on her. She admitted to lying in bed all day watching old episodes of The Office, thinking about death, until she decided she needed to find a therapist.
"For the first time in my life, there wasn't a pinhole of light at the end of the tunnel. I thought, I just wish everything would stop," Williams, 28, told the magazine. "It wasn't in the sense of, I'm going to take my life. It was just hopelessness. Like, What's the point? I don't think I understood how dangerous hopelessness is. Everything hurts."
Her depression got so bad that she eventually quit Paramore for a short period, thinking that her time as a musician was over. "I just was done," she recalled thinking. "I thought, There's gotta be something else that I'm good at in my life. Maybe it's time for me to go find that."
Luckily, Williams was able to process her emotions both through therapy and through the creation of Paramore's latest album, After Laughter.
Williams isn't the only celebrity to battle mental illness in the spotlight, though her depression was kept relatively under wraps. Stars like Carrie Fisher and Britney Spears are just two of the many A-listers who have struggled with mental illness in Hollywood.
